Chains

Lift thine deep, abyssal eyes into mine
See for yourself the eternity you’ve spent in chains
See for yourself the chasm in which you slumber
The threads that bind and encumber

The threads that keep you from destiny
And perish the thought you could be free

And what do mine eyes see, but endless beauty
What doth my heart feel, but want and agony
Love, tell me, oh lovely goddess,
Were it you were free to experience the sky,
the open world and wonder why
These chains which lashed and burdened you
Exist only in your mind’s eye

You have been free this whole time.
